    Team Bath badminton player Josh Green won the 2010 Yonex English National Under-19 Badminton Championships in Milton Keynes on Sunday.

    Green defeated the number one seed Toby Penty in a thrilling semi-final before beating the joint-third seed Ben Tier (also Team Bath) in the final.

    His thrilling semi-final was the longest match of the competition, finishing 22-24, 21-19, 25-23.

    The Team Bath player then beat Tier 21-14, 19-21, 21-9 to win the men's title.

    He was awarded his trophy from Derek Batchelor, the vice-chair of Badminton England.

    The RVBA's Richard Vaughan commented "Its great to see two Team Bath players doing well. I trained with Josh in Bath and hes really developed under the eye of Peter Bush at the Team Bath training centre. Along with Ben Tier, Tim Stranks, and Chris Coles at the training centre the group is looking very strong at the moment.



    The RVBA (supported by Memory Lane Cakes) Sarah Thomas has been seeded ¾ for the German Junior Open to be held in Berlin from the 10th to the 14th of March.

    The German Junior Badminton Open is recognised as one of the World’s strongest Junior events with only the World Junior Badminton Championships receiving a stronger entry list.

    In the first round the Head sponsored player is up against Anna Buchert from Germany.

    The RVBA's Gean Sou Mo won this weekends Badminton Englands u13 South West Silver Doubles title with scratch partner Hannah Down from Devon. Winning every game to top the group.

    In the ladies singles the ten year old finished 2nd in her group, narrowly losing out on going through to the final stages.

    Another promising result for the youngster.

    Rebels Beat Penarth 8-1


    The Rebels Badminton Club defeated Penarth 8-1 in their home tie in the Cardiff Badminton League. Former RVBA legend Gareth Day and current RVBA sparring player Simon Rowe taking the final match to clinch a fine victory for Rebels.

    Badminton Wales u13 Lift Celtic Trophy


    The RVBA’s Gean Sou Mo, and Tsung Fong Mo helped the Badminton Wales U13 Celtic Challenge team defeat Ulster by 8 -7 to bring the trophy back to Wales.

    At 7-7 the Dragons came good in the final mixed doubles to win the event.

    The Badminton Wales Team overcame a slightly favoured Ulster Team in what was a great achievement by all the team.


     The Richard Vaughan Badminton Academy supported by Memory Lane Cakes Won Two Titles at the 2010 Welsh Badminton National Championships in Swansea on Sunday.

    The first title was the Mixed doubles with Richard Vaughan and Sarah Thomas beating former RVBA player Gareth Cox and Bethan Higginson in the semi final, and then defeating Joe Morgan and Kerry Ann Sheppard  in the final.

    The Second title was won by seventeen year old Sarah Thomas who regained her Welsh Badminton National title with a straight sets win over Jordan Hart in the semi final before beating Carissa Turner in three games in the final.

    The third title challenge on finals day ended in the semi final of the ladies doubles with the RVBA's Sarah Thomas and Rachel Thomas losing in two close games to former RVBA player Kelly Blake and Bethan Higginson.


    RVBA's Gean Sou Mo narrowly lost out on winning the Gloucester u11Badminton Open this weekend, having to make do with the silver medal.

    Another good result for a great young talent.

    Avon Badminton Doubles Inivitation


    Richard Vaughan Badminton Academy's (RVBA) Tsung Fong Mo won this weekends Avon Badminton Doubles Inivitation with Welsh Badminton doubles partner Matthew Pritchard.

    In the Group the badminton Wales pair topped the group, before winning the semi final 21-8, and the final 21-18.

    Tsung Fong's younger sister Gean also took part in the event with Chloe Mo both from Mid Glamorgan badminton, finishing middle of the 7 pair group.

    Great results for the young Sotx sponsored badminton players.



    Badminton Wales pair Richard Vaughan and Sarah Thomas were knocked out in the first round of the mixed doubles at the World Badminton Championships in India on Tuesday.

    A tough draw against the number seven seeds from Denmark, Thomas Laybourn and Kamilla Rytter Juhl, saw Vaughan and Thomas lose 21-15 21-12.

    Thomas also lost in tandem with sister Rachel in Wednesday's ladies doubles.

    The Welsh women faced seventh seeds Wen Hsing Cheng and Yu Chin Chien of Chinese Taipei and lost 21-9 21-3.
