Just back from Tahiti where we (Piret and I) played the Tahiti Badminton Open, a International Series Event with $10,000 prize money. A pretty strong badminton event with the full Commonwealth Teams from New Zealand and Australia. Top players from Canadea, India, France, USA, Germany and a player from Scotland!

Not bad at all for the middle of the Pacific Ocean!

The tournament did not start well as due to some flights delays we arrived the morning we were to play and pretty much went straight from the airport to the hall to play first mens doubles, then singles, and mixed. Quite a long day!

The flightended up being more than 40hrs via LA - dont travel KLM :)

Additionally we had some nasty draws, the second seeds in the mixed who went on to win the tournament, mens singles finalist, ladies doubles top seeds, etc.

The advatntage was we were able to go straight to the beach ... and it was a nice beach, a very nice beach!

Over the next few days in between going back to the hall to coach Alistair Casey who was moving through the draw nicely and went on to win th ebadmitnon tournament, we had a great few days in Tahiti first taking a jet ski around the island, before a great small aircraft flight around the islands.

The Tahiti badminton tournament was really well organised, for sure one of the best International Series events I have played, and French Polonysia is recommended its the perfect holiday destination.
