Monday 15th
After an early start we arrived at Warsaw Airport at 3.50pm. Transport decided to turn up an hour and 10 minutes later. After helping Sarah get her bag (which is bigger than her) onto the bus and both of us nearly knocked down by a passing bus we were finally on our way. With training courts booked 5-7pm because of the delay of transport and being rush hour we missed our training slot. After such a long day it was time for food and an early night in my king size bed at the Marriot, nice J
Tuesday 16th
After a good nights sleep and a big breakfast i was feeling good for the match ahead. After a good hit which was needed with the lights being so bright in the arena it was time to face our opponents, ‘Slovakia’. After a good warm up i was feeling good with no nerves at all. I got off to a good 8-2 start where i just froze and lost concentration losing the first game. I regained my concentration and came through the match winning 21-7, 21-8 in the third. Overall i felt i played well but i need to keep my concentration from the start for tomorrow’s match against Hungary. Fellow RVBA player Sarah Thomas won her singles in a good 3 setter. Unfortunately Sarah playing with her sister Rachel lost in 2 tight sets. Final score Wales 4, Slovakia 1.
Wednesday 17th
Today we didn’t play until 6pm, so we had a good training session around mid day. Again i was feeling good before going on court and i was feeling confident about my match. On court i was very tense and couldn’t relax. I lost my match 21-17, 21-18. Sarah managed to win her singles in 3 and again unfortunately losing the doubles in 3, but a good performance by the girls.
I was disappointed with my performance today but am looking forward to playing against the seeds Bulgaria tomorrow. It will be very tough but hoping to stay relaxed and put in a good performance. Final Score Wales 3, Hungary 2.
