Badminton Wales Richard Vaughan and Sarah Thomas won their second round match at the 2009 Welsh Badminton Open against the Austrian first pair of Prutsch and Zirnwald.

The Welsh pair took the first game convincingly 21-13, but were narrowly edged out of the second set 17-21. The third set was a nail biter with the Welsh pair coming out on top 27-25.

Now the Badminton Wales pair are up against the Scottish Open Finalists from Australian's Veeran and Veeran.

Other RVBA activity in the tournament was ended today, as Michael Lewis and Rachel Thomas lost in the mixed Last 16, as did the Thomas sisters who narrowly went out in their ladies doubles with three sets against englands Milne and Fletcher.
Aimee Moran and Rachelle Phillips went down 21-11 21-12 against a very strong Malaysian pair.

The RVBA's Richard Vaughan commented "It was a good win in the mixed doubles in the end, but we could have won it earlier. Tomorrows morning will be tough again. The ladies doubles was a very big match and the girls were unlucky not to clinch it".
