Badminton Wales Take Northumberland Singles Title

Badminton Wales Sarah Thomas won this weekend’s Northumberland u19 Badminton Championships in style beating a host of top players along the way. Sarah just Seventeen last week is a member of the Richard Vaughan Badminton Academy supported by Memory Lane Cakes, Cardiff (www.rvba.co.uk ).
The Northumberland u19 badminton event is the equivalent to an unofficial English u19 Open with top players from all across the UK, and abroad. This year there were two teams from Sweden.
In the early rounds Sarah beat Irish No1 Junior Chambers 21-17 21-16. In the quarter final Sarah beating England’s Hayley Rogers 21-11 21-15.
The Semi final saw Sarah beat top English player Helena Lewczynska 21-16 21-14.
That set up a final against England's Georgina Bland with Thomas coming out on top 20-22, 21-18, 28-26. A great result before this week’s Welsh Open, in Cardiff.
The RVBA's Aimee Moran also represented Badminton Wales in the event, reaching the quarter final in the ladies doubles.
This week is the Welsh Open Badminton event in Cardiff. The event is part of the European Badminton Circuit.

RVBA players have tough draw in all events;
Mens Singles
Tim Stranks - The u17 player has a tough qualification draw.
Ladies Singles
(7*) Sarah Thomas - A tough opening match against German u19 No1 Deprez.
Aimee Moran - the u16 player will have a difficult qualification event.
Ladies Doubles
(2*) Thomas & Thomas - Tough first mtch against top English Junuor pair.
Moran & Phillips - Another tough opening match against a young english pair.
Mixed Doubles
(3*) Vaughan & Thomas - a potential difficult opening tie in the second round against the top Austrian pair of Prutsch, and Zirnwald who have some fine results already this season. The Badminton Wales pair won the last encounter in the semi final of the Cypriot Badminton Europe event in early October but the Austrians will be out for revenge.
Lewis & Thomas - Rachel Thomas teams up with Mchael Lewis and they face Canadian opposition in the first round.
