On the weekend of the 27-28th July the Welsh National Junior Badminton Championships took place in Llanelli, Wales. A main event for Badminton Wales. Five RVBA players were involved, and took five titles between them.
The main star for the RVBA at the Welsh Badminton Nationals was Sarah Thomas. Sarah comfortably took the u19 girls singles badminton title; then the u19 girls doubles title with former RVBA player Kelly Blake, and finished it off with a trio of titles taking the u17 girls singles title. The three National junior titles are in addition to the Senior National title Sarah won back in February in Wrexham.
The 4th title came from Tsung Fong Mo recently sponsored by SOTX rackets. Tsung Fong took the boys u13 doubles title with partner Matthew Phillips. Tsung Fong lost out in the semi final of the boy’s u13 singles championships to Adam Stewart the eventual winner.
Gean Sou Mo lost in the final of the girls u11 singles championships, and but won the 5th title for the RVBA in u11 ladies doubles.
The RVBA’s Aimee Moran put in a great performance in the U15 Ladies singles, winning some tough games before losing in the final. The fine performances for Aimee continued in the U17 ladies singles where she took some good scalps along the way to the semi final where she finally run out of steam. In the u15 ladies doubles Aimee teamed up with fellow RVBA player Sophie Trerise, reaching yet another final.
A great set up results for the RVBA players and all are looking forward to building upon that next season.
Next up for some RVBA player is the ‘White Nights’ Challenger event in Gatchina, Russia starting this Wednesday 1st July. The RVBA team is made up of Sarah Thomas, Rachel Thomas, Alistair Casey, and Richard Vaughan. The Russian event will be great preparation for the World Badminton Championships in India this August, in addition to being an important qualification event to represent Wales at the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games.
