Richard Vaughan Badminton Academy player Rachel Thomas is the current Ladies Captain of the Loughborough University. This weekend Rachel represented her University Team in the Badminton England Cup at the Grand Final Weekend held at Milton Keynes this weekend. For the second year running the Loughborough University Team won the Badminton England Cup with Rachel winning both of her games in the final.
The Badminton England Cup is a competition open to any Club affiliated to Badminton England. Teams entering compete on a district and regional knockout basis, with the top eight winning through to the grand final weekend. Rachel and her Loughborough University Team, which also included fellow former RVBA player Kelly Blake, won all of their matches and went on to beat a Hampshire Team in the final. They were awarded the Badminton England Cup and a £2000 cheque.
Rachel commented “It is great to win the Badminton England Cup for the second year running and to play in a team that has not lost a match in two years at this event. I am now looking forward to some hard summer training and playing in the World Championships with my sister Sarah Thomas”
