RVBA in Badminton Mixed Final
The RVBA supported by Memory Lane Cakes players took a bronze medal in the ladies doubles and a Silver medal in the mixed doubles at this years Badminton Europe Cyprus Circuit Event.

In the 1/4 final of the ladies singles Welsh Badminton No1 Sarah Thomas lost to Spanish No2 Beatrix Corrales 13-21, 16-21.

In the semi final match the Thomas sisters played up and coming Russian pair Perminova and Chervykova. An excellent first set saw the Badminton Wales pair take it 21-17. The second set was also a tough encounter with the Russians wining 9-21, as they did in the third game 15-21.
The Russians went on to win the tournament against the New Zealand first pair in straight sets. So a huge apportunity missed by the Welsh pair for their first International senior circuit title.

In the semi final of the mixed doubles Vaughan and Thomas beat a good Austrian pair in Zirnwald and Prutsch in a hard three set match 22-20, 18-21, 21-12.

In the final the Badminton Wales pair were up against New Zealand top pair in Tam and Haliday whome the Welsh pair had beaten convincingly in the previous Wales vs New Zealand Team match. This time however some good tactical play saw the Kiwis come out on top 21-18 , 21-14.

RVBA Head coach Richard Vaughan commented "It was a great learning experience for the young players, and it was great to pick up some last 3 placings. In the mixed the Austrians have been very good of late so that was a great win. It was then disappointing to the lose the final, so a little frustrating. I am sure the girls think the same in the ladies doubles."

Next up for the RVBA players will be some club matches in Spain playing for Paracuellos, and then the Wimbledon Challenger event in a few weeks time.
