The Last 16 of the European Badminton Championships in Manchester kicked off first for the RVBA with the Ladies Doubles match between Sarah Thomas and Rachel Thomas against the Czech Republic top pairing of Alzbeta Basova and Sarka Krizkova. The Czech Republic pair cam out on top in two close sets.

In the mixed doubles Sarah Thomas and Richard Vaughan were up against Top German pair Ingo Kindervator and Birgit Overzie. Despite a good match the German pair proved too strong coming out on top  18-21, 14-21

RVBA Head coach Richard Vaughan commented "It was a positive tournament for the RVBA players with valuable experience for the two young girls. The Last 16 match was close and they will be favourites for a medal tomorrow. Sarah is only 17 so for her to be anywhere near that type of level is great for the future".
