Spanish Badminton League
Badminton Club Torrejon Saglas Paracuellos had a tough 2nd leg tie in the semi final of the Spanish Badminton League against Badminton Rinconada with both Welsh badminton players Richard Vaughan, and Sarah Thomas playing the big match.
Badminton Rinconada, Richard Vaughan's former club; where he won a Euroepan badminton Silver and Bronze medal went in to the tie as favourites after their narrow 4-3 lead after the first semi final tie.
In the first match Welsh Badminton's Richard Vaughan and Sarah Thomas were up against Ruben Gordown, and Bing Xin Xu after their tight 3 set loss two weeks earlier. Once again the Indonesian and Chinese players came out on top in a close two set encounter 21-17, 21-15. Giving Badminton Rinconada a 1-0 lead.
The rest of the matches went as planned with Badminton Paracuellos Richard Vaughan and Sergio Llopes beating Spanish Badminton's top pair of Carlos Longo and Fernández Rafael 21-17 21-13.
Sarah Thomas played well but lost to Chinese player Bing Xin Xu on first singles 21-15,. 21-12.
Once again Badminton Rinconada took the tie 4-3, confirming their place in the final.
Richard Vaughan commented "Once again it was disappointing for the club, everyone played well but the biggest chance was the mixed doubles, the same as two weeks ago where we did not take our match points. Anytime you lose so close it is difficult. The positive side for the club is the young age of the club, and great young talents they have".
