Badminton Wales - Aimee Moran
The RVBA supported by Memory Lane Cakes’ Aimee Moran last week represented Badminton Wales, at the UK School Games in Cardiff, Wales. The event kicked off on Friday 4th September with the team event with the home 4 nations.
This was Aimee’s second tournament of the season after a tough Nottingham u17 Badminton Open where she narrowly lost in the group stages to top English opposition. It was also Aimee’s first major tournament after signing a contract with Top badminton racket brand ‘Head UK’.

After a good Team event where Wales came 2nd, Aimee had some tough draws in the girl’s singles losing against Raveesha Fernando 15 21, 8 21, a disappointing result after three close sets against the same player in Nottingham the week before.
In the Ladies doubles playing with Louise Breen the pair went out to Scotland’s Robyn Glen and Shereen Spittal 14 21, 21 18, 19 21. A very tight three setter.
Finally in the Mixed doubles playing with Robert John against England’s Jack Smith and Claire Weaver 15 21, 21 18, 21 16
Mixed against Scotland’s Gregor McVean and Robyn Glen 19 21, 24 22, 14 21.
Aimee Moran commented “I was really looking forward to the UK School Games as I have never been to this event before. When I got there everything was very professional. Even thought it was raining the Opening Ceremony was exciting. There was a huge crown supporting all the athletes. To represent your own country is a good achievement so I was quite nervous for the team event. In the Hall there was an amazing atmosphere because everyone was cheering their own country, all the players were very supportive of each other.
Whilst playing in the hall, there were cameras videoing you playing which made it more nerve racking, so I had to try and forget about them. Everyone played really well and well done to all the medallists.”
RVBA Head Coach Richard Vaughan commented “It is a good learning experience for Aimee, it is her first multi sports games, and that will take some getting used to. Aimee is however capable of much better results and I hope she works hard now to do better in the upcoming tournaments.”
Next up for the RVBA is this week’s Ukraine Badminton Open, part of the Badminton Europe circuit.
