The RVBA (supported by Memory Lane Cakes) Sarah Thomas has been seeded ¾ for the German Junior Open to be held in Berlin from the 10th to the 14th of March.

The German Junior Badminton Open is recognised as one of the World’s strongest Junior events with only the World Junior Badminton Championships receiving a stronger entry list.

In the first round Thomas plays Anna Buchert from Germany. There is a tough quarter final tie against Yik Kie Yeung the Hong Kong number two. The Hong Kong team is heavily influenced by the Chinese mainland. The semi final tie would be against either Danish number one Clausen or the top seed Korean number one Choi. The bottom half will be contested between Hong Kongs Poon, German number one Deprez, and English No1 Milne.

Thomas teams up with England’s Aspinall to form a scratch pairing in the mixed doubles, and they face Koreans Yoon and Lee in the first round.

Up an coming Badminton Wales junior Daniel Van Hooijdonk has a good draw with a 2rd match against Scotland’s Martin Campbell. While his older brother Jamie Van Hooijdonk is seeded 5/8 and starts against Baldursson from Iceland.

RVBA Head coach Richard Vaughan commented “This will be a great tournament for Sarah as it will square her off against some of the world best players, with only mainland China and Indonesia missing from the event. There will also be some tricky opening rounds against German and French players so it will be a good all round test."
