Badminton Thomas & Uber Cups
The 3rd day of play at this year’s World Badminton Team Championships started with the Badminton Wales Men’s team taking on Portugal in Group F. The Men’s team took all 5 games in 2 hours 31 minutes which gave them the 5‐0 win against the Portuguese team and ending the group stage in 3rd position.
MS1 ‐ Raj Popat vs. Nuno Santos ‐ 21‐19, 21‐19
MS2 – Irwansyah vs. Gil Matyns – 21‐13, 21‐16
MS3 – Jamie van Hooijdonk – 21‐15, 14‐21, 21‐17
MD1 – Joe Morgan & James Phillips vs. Fernando Silva & Gil Martyns – 21‐9, 21‐14
MD2 – Martyn Lewis & Irwansyah vs. Hugo Rodrigues & Tomas Nero 23‐25, 21‐6, 21‐5
The Badminton Wales Ladies team faced the seeds of the group Bulgaria and put in a good performance but Bulgaria came
out on top 5‐0 winning the group with Wales taking 2nd place, with two very good wins against Hungary and Slovakia for the women’s team.
With just the top team going through tothe Quarter Finals stages both Men’s and Women’s team exit the competition at the group stage

LS2 – Carissa Turner vs. Linda Zechri – 19‐21, 9‐21
LS3 – Vikki Jones vs. Dimitria Popstoykova ‐ 11‐21, 6‐21
LD1 – Sarah Thomas & Rachel Thomas vs. Petya Nedelcheva & Deimitria Popstoykova ‐7‐21, 11‐21
LD2 – Carissa Turner & Caroline Harvey vs. Diana Dimova & Linda Zechiri – 14‐21, 11‐21
