The Richard Vaughan Badminton Academy supported by Memory Lane Cakes Won Two Titles at the 2010 Welsh Badminton National Championships in Swansea on Sunday.
The first title was the Mixed doubles with Richard Vaughan and Sarah Thomas beating former RVBA player Gareth Cox and Bethan Higginson in the semi final, and then defeating Joe Morgan and Kerry Ann Sheppard in the final.
The Second title was won by seventeen year old Sarah Thomas who regained her Welsh Badminton National title with a straight sets win over Jordan Hart in the semi final before beating Carissa Turner in three games in the final.
The third title challenge on finals day ended in the semi final of the ladies doubles with the RVBA's Sarah Thomas and Rachel Thomas losing in two close games to former RVBA player Kelly Blake and Bethan Higginson.
RVBA player Sarah Thomas commented “It was great winning two titles, I knew it would be hard again this year, especially playing all three events. It was disappointing losing the doubles semi final but Rachel has been having final exams in Loughborough so it was tough in the semi.
RVBA Head Coach Richard Vaughan commented “It was a great tournament for all RVBA players really, some were unlucky with their draws but played well, namely Vikki Jones and Aimee Moran. Sarah did well to win two titles, and it was nice to see some of the former RVBA player now away at university namely Kelly Blake and Gareth Cox playing well and getting good results. After some negative comments from Welsh Badminton in regards to our mixed, it was nice to win the mixed title again, and that reinforces our World top 50 status for much of the past year. ”
The remaining title winners were;
Mens Singles – Irwansyah
Mens Doubles – Joe Morgan and James Phillips
Ladies Doubles – Carissa Turner and Caroline Harvey
