The annual NEWRBA badminton Tournament at Flint was a great success with a higher turnout of players than last year.
Deeside Badminton Club dominated the results with Christian Pistor and Ashley Oxborough handing out a lesson to clubmate Lee Billington and Paul McCracken (Denbigh) to win the men’s doubles.
It was an all-Deeside affair in the ladies doubles with Natalie Beard and Melissa Caswell overcoming Belinda Jones and Maxine McCulloch in a close final.
The mixed doubles saw brother-and-sister pairing Gareth and Danielle Oates get the better of fellow Deesiders Billington and Natalie Beard to take the trophy.
Deeside lead Flintshire Badminton League Division One with 54 points, nine clear of second-placed Airbus.
Mold drew at Northop despite Jon Savory and Siobhan Cowling losing a thrilling three-setter to Northop’s Andy Chambers and Sylvia Connah.
Third placed Connah’s Quay proved too strong for Mold though as five matches went to three sets with Matty Burrows getting the player of the night award. Division Two leaders Buckley are now 10 points clear of nearest rivals Rossett.
