After their quarter final win against Ibiza, Madrid faceed rivals Rinconada in the smei final of the Badminton Spain Club League.

The first leg last weekend in Madrid the return leg on the 27th March.

A tough team sheet for both teams here as both teams although strong contain several foreigners from the UK, China, Indonesia, Singapore, and only a maximum of 3 of the 7 ties in the team match can be played with the foreigners, so a lot of time spent pre-match attempting to second guess how the other team might play their combination and trying to steal an edge from the start with your own line up.

The Badminton All England Championships dates back to the 10 March 1898 when Mr Percy Buckley, secretary of the Guildford Badminton Club, organised the first ever Open Badminton Tournament. This tournament was held at the Drill Hall in the centre of Guildford and was a one-day event with only doubles being played.

This first badminton tournament was such a success that the English Badminton Association decided to hold their own event the following year, with the first official Badminton Championships on 4 April 1899 at the London Scottish Drill Hall in Westminster.

The width of the net was only 16 feet and the posts had canes protruding above them to aid judgement whether the shuttle had past over the net. The lines of the courts were chalked out on the morning of the tournament before play commenced.
